The Weekly Word: Don't Dwell In Despair
The weekly verse
Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you restless and disturbed within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall again praise Him…”
Psalms 43:5 (AMP)
the weekly question
Why wait?
“Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you restless and disturbed within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall again praise Him…”
Psalms 43:5 (AMP)
In this Psalm we find King David, “a man with a heart aligned with God’s”, wrecked with distress. There’s a heaviness in his spirit, leading him to question what’s happening. Take notice that he answers his own question.
He reminds himself to wait expectantly on the Lord. Why? Because the poor in spirit, who seek The Lord, will be filled with an outpouring of His Praiseworthy Presence. This was good news for David & it’s good news for us. It’s good to be reminded that when we wait on the Lord, it’s never a waste. This is why—
“we also celebrate in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Romans 5:3-5 (NASB)
the weekly Consideration
When we consider the original disciples Jesus called, we find a group of men who were the furthest thing from a polished, religious-elite. These ordinary, rugged (and often despised men) became the foundation of the Church—the very Body of Christ’s choosing. These men weren’t chosen for their wealth of talent; they were chosen for their wealth of willingness.
They Were Deep Wells For Jesus To Draw From.
The Lord has never wasted a single moment worrying about your capabilities, and neither should you. God does not need, nor is He asking for your ability. He’s searching the hearts of those with availability. The simple truth is, Jesus isn’t calling you to try out for a part “you think” He wants you to play.
Jesus Is Calling You To A Life He Called “The Way”.
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said,
“Here am I. Send me!”
Isaiah 6:8 (AMP)
the weekly challenge
Bring your burdens to jesus
We all end up sick at one point or another. Though we may not know exactly what’s wrong, our symptoms are the indication that something isn’t right. But God willing, we find a good doctor who properly diagnoses & helps us treat the source of our symptoms.
In the same way, there are times in life when something isn’t right in our heart & mind. We may not know exactly what’s wrong, but thankfully, we don’t have to. We just have to be willing to go to the One who does.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
Hebrews 4:15
There is no greater person to bring your burdens to than Jesus. He’s the only One who can fully comprehend, and He’s the only One who can fully help you mend. Through the revelation of God’s Spirit, God’s Word becomes the mechanism for the diagnosis & direction that we so desperately desire.
“For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, like a two-mouthed sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts.”
Hebrews 4:12 (TPT)
God’s Word is our meditation, revealing what’s wrong at the deepest level. And His Word is our medication, which goes beyond our symptoms and treats our hearts directly. As we yield in faith to the Lordship of the Holy Spirit, things in our life begin to be put back in their proper place.
In partnering with The Lord, His power & purpose are revealed in spite of our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). In His great strength, The Holy Spirit helps us right our wrongs. In His great love, Jesus brings restoration to every fiber of our being. And in the faithful hands of our Father—
