All Things New (Part 5): The Power Of One
One door
“One man’s disobedience opened the door for all humanity to become sinners. So also one man’s obedience opened the door for many to be made perfectly right with God and acceptable to him.
All of humanity knows what it means to have stepped through the door of Adam’s original sin. It’s led to fear, depression, failing health, broken relationships, and ultimately death. Our sin opened the door of devastation, but thank God—
He gave us another door.
One door defines you as a sinner, another transforms you into a Son. Jesus made a path we could not pave, to a unlock a door we could not find, so we could walk with God in intimacy for all eternity. When our eyes are truly open, the choice couldn’t be any clearer. When His light shines within us, there’s no reason to continue stumbling in the dark.
Jesus once told a man, who was lame (paralyzed) for 38 years, to ”Stand up, pick up his mat, & walk” (John 5:8). And he did! In the same way, God has not called us to drag our feet to the finish line. God is calling us to stand & walk in faith.
Jesus taught us clearly that the Kingdom of God has now come. His prayer was for the Lord’s “will to be done”–here on earth as it is in Heaven. Our lives should be a continual answer to Jesus’ prayer.
So God, we ask that you open our eyes to the New Life we have because of this open door. Let the reality of this path be too great for us to ignore. And lead us fully in your calling—
as you empower us to do more.
One Power
The Power of God is one of the fundamental aspects of the Christian faith. In fact, the Apostle Paul issued a warning in 2 Timothy 3:5, in which he tells us to be on the lookout for those who falsely imitate the One True Power. Paul said:
“There will be people who have a form of godliness but deny its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”
This “imitation godliness” is rampant in our world today. You can find plenty of people who put on a good show, but they lack in substance. Paul tell us these people will ultimately “never advance”. In other words, it may sell now but it will never stand the test of time.
As Christ-followers, we can’t afford to ebb & flow with the trends of this world. The Spirit of Christ has set us apart. We aren’t trend seekers, we are trend setters. Everything we do should be set in accordance to the Power of Christ working within us. We don’t deny God’s Power-
we depend on it daily.
It’s time to remember that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead, is the same transformative Spirit residing in you. Be transformed daily by the renewing of the Spirit of Truth. Let Him be your guide in all that you do. And be encouraged that the One True Power of God—
has made his home in you.
One Body
Our spiritual enemy thrives on a “divide and conquer” approach. Any time he can provoke divisions within families & groups of people, he does so. Why? Because divided people are weak people. Thus, Ephesians 4:3-6 (TPT) tells us to:
“Be faithful to guard the sweet harmony of the Holy Spirit among you in the bonds of peace, being one body and one spirit, as you were all called into the same glorious hope of divine destiny.
For the Lord God is one, and so are we, for we share in one faith, one baptism, and one Father.”
The kingdom of this world is made up of divisions; God’s Kingdom involves connections. The world offers cliques, God offers Christ. As the Family of God, we are One Body joined under the head of Christ Jesus’ household. Therefore, we should“…be joined together in perfect unity—with one heart, one passion, and united in one love. [And ] walk together with one harmonious purpose…”
As we walk together in Christ-centered purpose, the Family of God will operate as it should. We will recognize our unique role and be able to respond accordingly. When the Body of Christ operates as One—
there’s nothing that can’t be done.
one Shepherd
“When he saw the vast crowds of people, Jesus’ heart was deeply moved with compassion, because they seemed weary and helpless, like wandering sheep without a shepherd.”
God’s Word makes it incredibly clear, we are all like sheep that have gone astray. It’s easy to hear that and assume the magnitude of the problem is based on the fact that “all of us” are weary and helpless. And while that’s true, it’s also incomplete.
Jesus told us that if a man owned one-hundred sheep and only one wandered away, he would leave the ninety-nine to find it. Because the Father’s desire is for not one single lamb to be lost (Matthew 18:12-14, TPT).
that “one” includes you.
In John Ch. 10, Jesus reveals Himself as “the Good Shepherd”. What does the Shepherd do? He nourishes, He loves, He protects, and He directs. And ultimately, He “lays down His life as a sacrifice for the sheep” (John 10:11).
This is what Jesus has done for you.
Jesus has set you free from an aimless, “hope-for-the-best” pursuit. Instead, you are now shepherded by God Almighty Himself. When He speaks, we listen. Where He directs, we go. We no longer falter in our own way—
We follow Him in all His ways.
one step
“Whatever happens, keep living your lives based on the reality of the gospel of Christ. Then when I come to see you, or hear good reports of you, I’ll know that you stand united in one Spirit and one passion—celebrating together as conquerors in the faith of the gospel.
For you have been called by him to endure the conflict in the same way I have endured it—for you know I’m not giving up.”
Philippians 1:27, 30 (TPT)
If you are a follower of Christ, there should never be a lack of celebration in your life. This doesn’t mean everything is what you desire it to be circumstantially. It simply means that as you endure, you continue to live your life based on the “reality of the gospel of Christ.” And the reality is—
We are conquerors in the faith.
When the people of God gather, it’s a celebration. We stand in one Spirit and one passion because of the victory we’ve been given through Christ Jesus. Maybe the one step you need to take is to simply celebrate. To continually celebrate the Goodness of our God.
For others of you, your “one step” may look different. The bottom line is: “We are all one in sin, one in failure, one in hopelessness, one in need of the Lord Jesus Christ and His great salvation” (Martyn Lloyd-Jones).
And today, God’s opened your heart to genuinely recognize this truth. To recognize the reality of Acts 4:12, which tell us, “salvation is found in no one else. There is no other name by which man can be saved”. Today you recognize-
Jesus is the One.
The Good News is, any one who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 8:11). You have one confession to make. One step of faith to take. You can call out to God and He will hear you. And this one decision—
Will change your life forever.
