The Weekly Word: Finding Freedom

What’s Your claim to fame?
Simply put, a “claim to fame” is a mark on an individual’s life that is said to communicate the importance or significance of that person. The truth is that every single one of us carry a measure of favor that’s considered noteworthy, and as Jeremiah Ch. 9 reveals, many of these markers are actually very good things in life (e.g. wisdom, power, and wealth).
The issue, then, isn’t found within the grace of these God-given gifts. The real issue is whether or not we allow our blessings to become the primary boast of our heart. Will our identity become entangled in favor, or will it remain fully rooted in The Father?
This is what the Lord says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things…”

“You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”

Freedom is always found by walking in the righteousness of The Lord’s ways. Faithful obedience isn’t overrated or outdated—it’s the way the Spirit leads us to experience life in all its fullness. Those of us who are in covenant relationship with The Conqueror of Sin, Christ Jesus, have a mandate to extend His Kingdom & subdue all subversive sin in our life.
the weekly challenge
Walk in reverence
When we give the Holy Spirit room to work, He redefines every aspect of our lives. He inspires a Godly diligence that seeks to please the Lord instead of people. As true sons & daughters of Christ Jesus, He empowers us to shamelessly reflect the purity of His truth.
God’s Spirit touches our hearts with the tangible love of God the Father, and He reaffirms that we truly belong to Him. In light of His love, the only reasonable response is for our “talk & walk” to be transformed. As people who’ve been liberated from sin’s condemnation, we seek to live in an uncompromising way that reveres the Lord & reaches the lost.
“Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior. This kind of talk spreads like cancer...
But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”
