The Weekly Word: Transform Your Thinking

The weekly verse

“For he alone is my safe place. His wraparound presence always protects me as my champion defender. There’s no risk of failure with God! So why would I let worry paralyze me, even when troubles multiply around me?

God’s glory is all around me! His wraparound presence is all I need, for the Lord is my Savior, my hero, and my life-giving strength.”

Psalms 62:6-7 (TPT)

the weekly question

Do you have enough?

In the story of the “Poor Widow”, we find a woman whose husband has died, leaving her with the family’s debt & no means to work. Because creditors are coming to claim her two sons as collateral, she reaches out to a man of God (Elisha) for help.

“What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied. And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. Then go into your house with your sons…Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.”

So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim! “Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons. “There aren’t any more!” he told her…When she told the man of God what had happened, he said to her, “Now sell the olive oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on what is left over.”

2 Kings 4:1-7

God took a woman who had “nothing” & did something that only He could do. He took a story about a person’s limited capability & turned it into a story of His unlimited capacity. Just like the widow, we are all called to live with an obedient faith that recognizes what God has asked of us & declares:

“Lord, I’ll do what You’ve asked me to do, and I’ll trust You to take care of the rest.”

Whether you’re experiencing a moment or a season of spiritual dryness, Jesus is inviting you to know Him as The God of Unfailing Provision, the ever-flowing spring. Jesus is inviting you to stake your trust in Him, and to experience the revelation that He’s not only enough—

Jesus Is More Than Enough.

“And the Lord will continually guide you, And satisfy your soul in scorched and dry places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.”

Isaiah 58:11 (AMP)

the weekly Consideration

Time & again, The Lord reveals Himself as The God of Invitation. If we lack wisdom, we’re invited to seek God & His generous help (James 1:5). If our burdens become unbearable, Jesus invites us to enter His rest (Matthew 11:28). And if we hunger for more than what this world has to offer, we’re invited to fill ourselves with the Presence of Christ & to experience His glorious Kingdom (Matthew Ch. 22).

Day after day, The Holy Spirit invites us to come closer & experience a personal embrace from The Father. When we deny ourselves & accept His invitation, God illuminates the joy of Jesus’ Presence & we become increasingly aware of what truly matters. The good news is, there’s more of God’s goodness to be experienced today. And for those who desire more, God’s extending an open door.

“I know all that you’ve done. Now I have set before you a wide-open door that none can shut. For I know that you possess only a little power, yet you’ve kept my word and haven’t denied my name.”

—Jesus (Revelation 3:8, TPT)

“But everyone my Father has given to me, they will come. And all who come to me, I will embrace and will never turn them away.”

—Jesus (John 6:37, TPT)

the weekly challenge

Transform Your Thinking

Life is a constant process of making decisions that either pull us backward or propel us forward. We can never take hold of “what can be” if we refuse to part ways with “what used to be”. God has called us to turn this page in our life & to embrace a new chapter. Romans 12:1 gives us insight for how this takes place in the Christian life:

“…give your bodies [the entirety of who you are] to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”

Everything you do is a result of what you choose to think & believe. This is why “being a living sacrifice” begins from within. It’s about surrendering every muddied area of your thought-life to God. It’s allowing the Holy Spirit to replace areas dominated by worldly-thinking with His Kingdom’s mentality. It’s replacing religious-based thinking with relationship-based living. Ultimately, it’s recognizing that life isn’t about moving closer to “our goals”—

The Ultimate Goal Is To Move Closer To Our Good God.

“Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.”

Romans 12:2 (TPT)

“…Be made complete [be what you should be], be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace [enjoy the spiritual well-being experienced by believers who walk closely with God]; and the God of love and peace [the source of lovingkindness] will be with you.”

2 Corinthians 13:11 (AMP)
