The Weekly Word: The Mountain of Grace
The weekly verse
“Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory. For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.”
1 Peter 1:21, 23 (NLT)
the weekly question(S)
It should come as no surprise that Jesus called for repentance when He announced the arrival of God’s Kingdom (Matthew 3:2). Apart from changing our mind & placing our faith entirely in Him, there’s no other way to be immersed in the spiritual realities of His Kingdom.
How can we possibly “find our lives by losing them for His sake” (Matthew 10:39)? How can we see the restoration of the lost & overlooked as “the last become first” (Matthew 20:16)? How can we exit the old systems of religious bondage & corrupt world values, and receive an “imperishable & incorruptible heavenly inheritance” (1 Peter 1:4)? It’s only by the grace of God that’s found in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
“We have an altar from which the priests in the Tabernacle have no right to eat. Under the old system, the high priest brought the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, and the bodies of the animals were burned outside the camp. So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood.
So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore. For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”
Hebrews 13:10-14 (NLT)
the weekly Consideration
There is profound peace that is only found in the Presence of God. His peace cuts through the chaos of life, and radically redefines our understanding of His ever-present nature. His peace releases resurrection power, which floods us with the grace & favor to accomplish His will in every area. The peace of God is a perfect gift from a Good Father, who gives generously to those whose lives are joined in union with Jesus.
“Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood— may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.”
Hebrews 13:20-21 (NLT)
the weekly challenge
Make the most of Your mountain
Before we even had the capacity to perceive Him, God’s Spirit has been lavishly pouring out blessing after blessing upon us. The overall depth of God’s love & kindness is truly incomprehensible, but the riches of His goodness & glory are irrefutable. In His infinite wisdom, The Lord has given us the right things & the right people, at just the right time. This is the grace of God, which ultimately culminates with the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?”
Romans 2:4 (NLT)
The world we live in is on a steep moral decline, and darkness tries to drown out the very Light of Day. But The Lord is faithful, and He is still with us today. May we never grow cold, calloused, or indifferent to the tender waves of affectionate love He continues to pour out. May we make the most of every opportunity to grow in Christ, to respond to His leading in our life, and to continually seek His face. May we never become blind to the blessings of God & miss this mountain of grace.
“You have not come to a physical mountain, to a place of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai. For they heard an awesome trumpet blast and a voice so terrible that they begged God to stop speaking. No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering. You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people...
Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven! Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.”
Hebrews 12:18-19, 22, 24-25, 28 (NLT)
