The Weekly Word: Listen For The Lord
The weekly verse
“…the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah 6:8 (NLT)
the weekly question
Are you listening?
“Speak to us yourself and we will listen,” they said to Moses. “But do not let God speak to us, or we will die.” “Do not be afraid,” Moses replied. “For God has come to test you, so that the fear of Him may be before you, to keep you from sinning.”
Exodus 20:19-20 (BSB)
While The Lord Himself desires to speak to us, we can be all too quick to look to other people for mediating and “translating” all that He has to say. However, we will only find our way as we continue to let The Lord be THE LORD of our life. Yes, it’s wise & discerning to look to the right people that God directs us to for guidance. But even when we go to others, we must always be listening intently for what God's Spirit may be saying & confirming through another person.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd, the One whose voice we listen to & follow after (John 10:27). Jesus has the words of life (John 6:68) that we simply cannot live without. As the True Shepherd of our souls, Jesus is the only One who can properly direct us through every season of our life.
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 (BSB)
the weekly Consideration
Today is a day to discover more of the unending goodness & glory of The Lord (Isaiah 6:3). Today is chalked full of opportunities to glorify God & demonstrate His Kingdom (Matthew 5:16).
This is a day to be filled with righteous acts, prepared in advance for those who lay claim to Jesus’ name (Ephesians 2:10). This is a day for divine appointments—opportunities to encounter God’s Presence & be transformed into the image of Christ (Romans 8:29).
“This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalms 118:24
the weekly challenge
respond to his call
Depth is an incredibly important measure in life. The depth of tread on your tires can be the difference between a safe cruise or a serious crash. We grant degrees to people based on a certain depth of knowledge they acquire. Even our relationships are defined by the depth of our experiences with another person.
God Himself has designed us with a depth of spiritual need.
Like a hunger that goes unfulfilled, we all ache for more than what this world has to offer. It’s a spiritual need that runs deep within us & powerfully affirms Jesus’ words when He said, “man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). In fact, Jesus told us that when the soil is right, the seed of His Word would produce a harvest of righteousness thirty, sixty, or even one-hundred times what was sown (Mark 4:20).
The good news is, God is still sowing in this season.
Jesus is calling you into right-relationship with Him, so that His word can be released to greater depths in your life. He wants to give you an assurance that removes the corrupted seeds of doubt, discouragement, and despair. He wants to give you good seed that will settle your soul. As you allow God’s Spirit to lead you into an ongoing revelation of His Word—
You’ll find that God has all the seed your heart will ever need.
