The Weekly Word: In-Step With The Shepherd

welcome to the weekly word

I am the Good Shepherd, I know my sheep and my sheep know me”

—Jesus (John 10:14)

Time and again, Jesus outlined how vitally important it is for each of us to learn the sound of His voice when He speaks. This is why we’re starting a new weekly post titled, “The Weekly Word”. The Weekly Word will be a single post, which features a handful of timely impressions that have been written throughout the week.

This may include specific Scripture, impressionable quotes, and posts related to a particular theme. We’re believing The Weekly Word will challenge you to better recognize, understand, and apply what the Holy Spirit is saying in your daily life. Ultimately, the goal is to facilitate Biblical-inspired dialogue that helps you stay in-step with the Shepherd & His leading.

Every single born-again Believer has been called & designated to bear Kingdom fruit that lasts. And the reality is, this only happens in the context of intimate connection to Jesus (John Ch. 15). As we remain intentional in pursuing Him in relationship, devoting time in His presence & in His Word (the Bible), our relationship will grow & His fruit will begin to show. This is a new year to reorient the devotion of our hearts back to our “First-Love”, King Jesus.

This is the year to walk boldly as sons and daughters of His Kingdom!

The weekly verse

“He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]…”

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (AMP)

the weekly question

Where are you failing to advance in a particular area of your life?

the weekly Consideration

Readjust Your Rhythm

Time is interesting because it’s always relative to the place you find yourself. In fact, if you travel far enough in any direction, you’ll eventually find yourself in an entirely different timezone. What’s even more interesting, is to consider the timezone the Lord operates in & what His perspective is. In 2 Peter 3:8, we find:

“A single day is like a thousand years to the Lord & a thousand years is like a single day.”

The Lord is operating in an entirely different dimension of time than we are. Meaning, He has all the time in the world to accomplish His purpose for your life today. It becomes obvious, then, why Jesus commanded us to “not worry about tomorrow but to turn our attention to today” (Matthew 6:34). And the imperative of Proverbs 3:5-6 becomes an anchor for the soul that’s so easily tempted to worry:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

Jesus invites each of us to operate in His dimension, because He wants to redeem our time for His glory & our good. As with any new timezone, there is a need to adjust our rhythm & acclimate accordingly. Which means, we will have to submit ourselves to Him in order to properly steward “this day” that He’s graciously given. And if we do, we will open the door for the Holy Spirit to bring otherworldly-breakthrough into our lives. We will open the door for the Spirit to keep us in step with Jesus Christ &—

We Will Reap His Presence As Our Prize.

the weekly challenge

Go Deeper In Discipleship

“When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the sea—and they were terrified. But Jesus spoke up: “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they were willing to take Him into the boat, and at once the boat reached the shore where they were heading.”

John 6:19-21 (BSB)

There is a revelation of Jesus that is intimidating & downright terrifying. This overwhelming sense speaks to the power of His presence & is clearly illustrated in the lives of His disciples. The good news is, Jesus will speak a word of assurance. If we heed His command to “not be afraid”, we will find a willingness well-up inside of us & we will let Him into our boat. It will be at that moment that we find ourselves accelerated into our God-given destiny. Where we have been headed our entire lives will come to fruition.

Keep sailing. Keep searching. Those who are willing to sail deeper in discipleship with Jesus are going to find what their hearts have been wired for. You will find the Captain of your heart, Christ Jesus.
