The Weekly Word: Embrace The New
The weekly verse
“But the Lord will be the Savior of all who love him. Even in their time of trouble, God will live in them as strength. Because of their faith in him, their daily portion will be a Father’s help and deliverance from evil. This is true for all who turn to hide themselves in him!”
Psalms 37:39-40 (TPT)
the weekly Consideration
Even to our own detriment, we operate as creatures of habit. We often cling to what’s common & comfortable instead of embracing what’s clearly best. Jesus witnessed this time & again, especially with the religious groups of His time, and illustrated the ultimate reality of this condition.
“…he gave them this illustration: “No one rips up a new garment to make patches for an old, worn-out one. If you tear up the new to make a patch for the old, it would not match the old garment. And who pours new wine into an old wineskin? If someone did, the old wineskin would burst and the new wine would be lost.
New wine must always be poured into new wineskins. Yet you say, ‘The old ways are better’, and you refuse to even taste the new wine that I bring.”
—Jesus (Luke 5:36-39, TPT)
So often, we want the new & blessed realities of Christ’s Kingdom to be revealed through our “old ways” of doing things. But as Jesus clearly stated, you cannot mix & match the old & New. His Presence is too powerful & His Kingdom is too vast to pour into our outdated, broken systems of life. In order to make due, you have to experience the New.
“Now, I tell you this, my brothers and sisters, flesh and blood are not able to inherit God’s kingdom realm, and neither will that which is decaying be able to inherit what is incorruptible.”
1 Corinthians 15:50 (TPT)
Life’s battles aren’t getting any easier, which is why it’s imperative we stop settling for spiritual stagnancy. Jesus calls us to walk in Kingdom power, but it will never be realized in what we can do in our own strength. The natural self, even with all its’ “good intentions”, is a completely insufficient vessel for carrying the life of Christ. Which means, we need to allow the Spirit of Truth to disciple us in the ways of Jesus.
As Jesus declared, this includes a lifestyle of taking up our cross, denying the self, & devoting ourselves to living in His Presence. We live crucified to our old way & cultivate the New Way. As you do, the dynamic, miracle-working power of God’s love will flow in greater measure through you. You’ll exit the broad path marked by death & unending strife, and instead, you’ll walk the narrow road of everlasting life.
the weekly question
Holy Spirit, what part of my “old life” am I still holding onto instead of surrendering it to You?
the weekly challenge
Embrace The new
“And he has taught you to let go of the lifestyle of the ancient man, the old self-life, which was corrupted by sinful and deceitful desires that spring from delusions.”
Ephesians 4:22
The “old self” is marked by corruption, deceit, and delusions. In the old self, the grip of sin is so tight, there’s no chance of getting things right. In time, any path pursued apart from God ultimately leads down a broken road. But thank God, His grace has redirected us to the True Path of Life.
“Now it’s time to be made new by every revelation that’s been given to you. And to be transformed as you embrace the glorious Christ-within as your new life and live in union with him! For God has re-created you all over again in his perfect righteousness, and you now belong to him in the realm of true holiness.”
Ephesians 4:22-24 | TPT
Now is the time to recognize that your true citizenship is in Heaven with Jesus. Now is the time to be transformed daily through intimate relationship with Him. Now is the time to embrace the New that God is revealing within you.
