The Weekly Word: Embrace God's Grace

The weekly verse

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭8‬ ‭(BSB‬‬)

the weekly question

What’s limiting your faith?

Nearly every day we get tied up with one thing or another. This sense of “being held back” can become so common, we often let it limit our ability to believe in the higher calling that God has placed on our life. But by faith in Jesus we recognize, The Lord is faithful to lead us in increasingly greater measures of His glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). By faith in Jesus we know, this is a new season.

This is a season to retire the “tied-up mentality” & to let go of our perceived limits. This is a season to press into our relationship with Jesus without hesitation, and to ask The Spirit to transform us without reservation. If we’ll anchor ourselves daily in Christ, we’ll find freedom in the challenge of our circumstances. If we’ll sell-out to the lordship of The Spirit, God’s love will continue to deepen & abound in all that we do.

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to test and prove what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

Philippians 1:9-11 (BSB)

the weekly Consideration

When it comes to our thought-life, there are at least two fundamental truths that are reiterated in God’s Word. Number one, our thoughts are a key area in which spiritual warfare takes place. In fact, in an honest admission of his own agonizing mental struggle, the Apostle Paul identified “a power that wars against our mind & tries to make us slaves to sin” (Romans 7:23). And while this isn’t a revelation that should make us fearful, it should reawaken our need to be ever-aware of what satan deploys against us (2 Corinthians 2:11).

Secondly, we have a responsibility to vigilantly guard our thoughts. As 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “we take every thought captive & make it obedient to Christ.” This means that our thought-life has to adhere to God’s Truth, and when it doesn’t, we submit every anxious & manipulated thought under the blood of Jesus. Instead of entrapping ourselves by entertaining or arguing with what the enemy has to say, we find freedom by “submitting to God & resisting the devil” (James 4:5).

At the end of the day, satan wants you to feel isolated so your mind can become more easily infiltrated. Don’t ever buy into his lie that “you’re stuck & alone”. Confide in a trusted person (or people) that God’s Spirit guides you to, and allow their prayers of healing to help deliver you (James 5:16). And no matter how dark things may appear to be, know that the Light of Jesus’ love is the answer that you need.

“...there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord…”

Romans 7:23-25 (NLT)

the weekly challenge

“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”

Ephesians 5:15-17 (NLT)

Your “life’s currency” is being spent every single day. The question is, are you putting it toward anything of lasting purpose? Though the times are evil, our God is Good, & The Lord expects us to take advantage of His Kingdom-opportunities.

God has called us to turn away from the fruitlessness of foolishness, and instead, to wisely bear fruit that brings Life to all who’d receive it. We’re to pursue His purposes & reap the promises of fulfillment that are only found in Jesus. By His Spirit, we’re to walk in a way that’s worthy of Christ’s Kingdom.

May God's Spirit inspire us to regain a compelling focus. May His Spirit embolden us to live with an uncompromising pursuit of His glorious plans. And may we recognize that where we’re going requires growing, and in order to grow, we have to sow. Today’s the day to sow another seed of faith.

Today’s the day to embrace God’s grace.
