The Weekly Word: Abide in Blessing
The weekly verse
“…How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] are all those who take refuge in Him!”
Psalms 2:12 (AMP)
the weekly question
How do you define your circumstances?
Jesus bore the unbearable chains of our sin so that we could find freedom in Him. Jesus overcame the kingdom of darkness so that would could live in His Kingdom of Light. Jesus never forgets nor forsakes us, and the scars of His hands bear witness to the invitation of Life that flows from God’s mercy & grace.
Don’t lose sight of The One who’s never lost sight of you. Don’t ever allow your circumstances to define your belief in Christ; let your belief in Christ redefine your circumstances. And no matter what life throws at you, anchor your trust in God’s unfailing character and ultimate plan.
“I will say to the prisoners, ‘Come out in freedom,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Come into the light.’ They will be my sheep, grazing in green pastures and on hills that were previously bare. They will neither hunger nor thirst. The searing sun will not reach them anymore. For the Lord in his mercy will lead them; he will lead them beside cool waters.
Yet Jerusalem says, “The Lord has deserted us; the Lord has forgotten us.” Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands...”
Isaiah 49:9-10, 14-16 (NLT)
the weekly Consideration
Whether it’s catering to our every desire & interest, or preying upon our doubts & fears, the world-system is always looking to drive a wedge between us & God. This is why our life mission must remain centered around Jesus Christ. His Spirit is the only One who can fan the flame of a healthy fear & holy adoration of love for The Lord.
The Spirit of God gives us a Kingdom perspective of Truth, and helps us distinguish between that which is eternal & that which is destined to perish. And as we learn to abide in His blessing, we find that God’s Spirit energizes & inspires us to live a truly pleasing & purposeful life (Philippians 2:12).
“Worship the Lord and serve Him with reverence [with awe-inspired fear and submissive wonder]; rejoice [yet do so] with trembling. Kiss (pay respect to) the Son, so that He does not become angry, and you perish in the way, for His wrath may soon be kindled and set aflame. How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] are all those who take refuge in Him!”
Psalms 2:11-12 (AMP)
the weekly challenge
Build a life that lasts
We can strive with unmatched strength, or scheme the most promising of plans, but none of these efforts will ever endure apart from The Lord. Our families & communities can have all the protections & provisions this world has to offer, but without the watchful eye of God, it’s as if they’re completely unguarded. At the end of the day, there are no amount of hours of work that can overcome the deficit of a deficient relationship with The Father.
Each of us were made to live & build our lives within the context of intimate relationship with our Creator. It’s only in Christ Jesus that we find life, and we begin to fulfill the purposes in which God created us for (Acts 17:28). By turning to Him, we find wisdom & strength in His Spirit. We find rest that only comes by trusting in the reassurance of His promises. And ultimately, we find that a life that truly lasts is always built upon the foundation of God’s grace.
“Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.”
Psalms 127:1-2 (NLT)
